Before Bossa Nova, Alaíde Costa already had a well-established career as a singer, and after being introduced to the movement by João Gilberto in its early years, she became the only Black female singer in Bossa Nova. She overcame her shyness and health problems and turned into one of the most important voices in Brazilian music.
