1839, interior of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Anahy (Araci Esteves) is a strong woman from the pampas, mother of four children, all from different fathers. Pulling a cart, she struggles to survive in the midst of the Farroupilha Revolution. Indifferent to political passions, her goal is to survive by peddling with caramurus (defenders of the Empire) and farrapos (revolutionaries) what she can loot from those killed in the fighting. Her only goal is to keep her family together. Inevitably, conflict infiltrates her life and Anahy watches helplessly as her family disintegrates.
