The Chic Show ball was a milestone in the life of São Paulo residents. Held in several halls around the city in the 1970s and 1980s, the event quickly became a meeting point for black culture and opened space for funk, soul, rap, pagode and other rhythms. Through the hands of its creator Luiz Alberto dos Santos, known as Luizão, Chic Show was a social, cultural and political experience that welcomed names such as Tim Maia, Sandra de Sá, Gilberto Gil, Djavan, Bebeto, Carlos Dafé as well as international artists such as Kurtis Blow, Betty Wright and the incomparable James Brown.
