Grande Sertão adapts the classic novel of Brazilian literature, Grande Sertão: Veredas, by Guimarães Rosa, to the reality of the urban periphery. In the plot, the ‘Grande Sertão’ community is controlled by criminal factions where a fight between police and bandits takes on the air of war. Here, Riobaldo (Caio Blat) ends up joining one of them to follow Diadorim (Luisa Arraes), whose identity and the passion he feels are conflicting mysteries in his mind. From then on, in the midst of a hostile war environment, Riobaldo faces ethical, moral and existential dilemmas as he tries to understand his place in the world and his own nature.
