The documentary discusses the expansion of Judaism in Pernambuco during Dutch domination in the 17th century. The film shows the importance of "new Christians" (Jews baptized by force by the Portuguese government), and of Mauricio de Nassau's fight for religious freedom, which allowed the creation of the first synagogue of the Americas, Zur Israel.
