Mathieu Dosse (who translated My uncle the jaguar and who did his thesis on the language of João Guimarães Rosa in Grande Sertão Veredas) and Patrick Straumann (writer, journalist) will be present for the panel after the film.
The film is narrated by Riobaldo, who transports us to a gunman's life, sharing his experiences and conflicts. Throughout the plot, he gets involved with various gangs and charismatic leaders, among whom the dreaded Hermogenes. Riobaldo's heart is won by Diadorim, a brave and mysterious young man, who becomes the love of his life. The author explores the complexities of the human soul, through Riobaldo's narrative, plunging into the duality between good and evil. The film is adapted from the celebrated work of art "The Devil to Pay in the Backlands", written by Guimarães Rosa.
