66 years ago, the first meeting between white people and the indigenous Metuktire people of the Kayapo nation took place. They lived on the banks of the Xingu River, in the northern state of Mato Grosso.

Henri Ballot, my father, a photojournalist for the magazine “O Cruzeiro”, was part of this expedition organized by the Villas-Boas brothers.

64 years later, I, Véronique, followed in my father's footsteps. Several questions guided me: what happened to the Metuktires after more than six decades of white invasion of their lands? What impact did that first meeting, so rich in promise, had on their lives? What traces would I find of my father, who I knew very little about, in this territory so far from urban centers?

In this film, the indigenous people speak. They are survivors of the first encounter and their descendants. They confront the past with the present, reliving the Kayapos' memories through my father's photos.

This second meeting reveals elements of reflection on the question of the survival and dignity of indigenous nations.
